A Town Meeting member resigns by filing a written notice of resignation with the Town Clerk. Resignation is effective as of the date of filing. A formal letter of resignation is required so that the Town Clerk can fill the vacancy from the candidate list at the last election, i.e., those failing to be elected, in order of votes cast. A Town Meeting member resigns by filing a written notice of resignation with the Town Clerk. Resignation is effective as of the date of filing. A formal letter of resignation is required so that the Town Clerk can fill the vacancy from the candidate list at the last election, i.e., those failing to be elected, in order of votes cast. If there is no "candidate in waiting", the vacancy is filled by nomination and vote of the Town Meeting Members of the precinct.
